November 2010, PBFC began training for the 2011 football season. The 2010 National Championships were behind and teams were looking forward to competing in the 2010 World Championships. January 2011, five teams travel to Orlando for the Kick-it 3v3 2010 World Championships. All teams competed admirably considering this was the first time they played against competitive teams in pool play. Following pool play, teams were placed into gold and silver brackets. All but one team were in the silver bracket for tournament play. The 1994 team was placed in the gold bracket, quite an achievement.

This tournament finished without an end. On the final day of the tournament all games were cancelled due to severe weather that engulfed the Orlando area. No true champions were crowned. At one stage games were going to be decided on penalties, but field conditions never improved and the tournament ended.

The 2011 regular season saw the Hammerheads sponsoring the Pompano Beach Spring 3v3 Challenge on March 26, 2011. PBFC entered an unprecedented eight teams, the largest entry for any tournament PBFC had ever participated in. At that tournament, Under 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, Open and over 30 teams played. The U11 team competed admirably for the 1st time as a team. They finished pool play winning one and losing 2, in tournament play they finished 4th. This was a team that had never played together including the addition of a talented guest player. Hopefully they will move forward towards Nationals.

The U12 team finished pool play with 2 wins and 1 loss. In tournament play they defeated our U11’s and faced United FC in the final. The U12’s finished their last game, beating United FC 8-3 for their first Championship. On to Naples for them.

The U13’s had a harder road, finishing the tournament without a victory, but they got better the more they played together. Next time.

The U16E’s (Elder) finished pool play1-2. The two U16’s played against U17, open and over 30 teams. This team advanced to the final against an over 30 team, but was unable to complete their championship run.

U16A’s (Aghyarian) finished pool play 0-2-1. This team played for third and defeated the over 30 Hammerheads to claim the third place trophy. A job well done.

U17’s finished pool play 2-1, losing to the best team in the tournament by one goal, they would meet that team in the final but were unable to complete a very good tournament on top, 2nd place is all they would get.

The open team finished the tournament undefeated but lost to the U17 Hammerheads in the semi-final; they would end up 3rd in the Gold division. A successful tournament.

The following weekend the teams traveled to Naples where they competed the weekend of April 2 and 3, 2011. At this tournament the Under 12, 14, 16, 17, open and over 30 teams competed. The Sunwaves joined the Hammerheads competing in the U14 girls division.

This time the U12 team finished 3rd in pool play with 11 goals for and 9 against. In tournament play they finished 3rd, defeating Bonita Storm 7-5. The U14 team finished 4th in pool play. This team played together for the first time and competed well. In the 3rd place match they were defeated by SC United.

The Sunwaves finished 2nd in pool play scoring 9 goals and giving up only 2. They advanced to the final defeating the Heracanes. The final was decided on penalty kicks. In the second round of penalties the Sunwaves fell to the NFM Skyblue. A hard defeat, but nothing to be ashamed of. A job well done.

The U16 and U17 teams were placed in the same division. The U16’s finished pool play 3rd with 10 goals for and 18 against. They defeated the Cobras for 3rd in the tournament. The U17 team finished pool play with 23 goals for and ONLY 1 goal against. An achievement never achieved by any Hammerhead team. They completed their run for the championship conceding 3 goals throughout the entire tournament and finishing with 35 goals, defeating the Cobras competition team.

Finally, the open and over 30 teams were in the last bracket. The open team finished pool play 3rd, scoring 16 and conceding 13 goals. In tournament play they defeated the Taylor gang and in the final they defeated the Weston Has Beens, another championship.

After Naples, back to South Florida for the Miramar tournament, during the weekend of May 7 and 8, 2011. With six teams competing the results on the summer like weekend were:

U11 – 3 goals for and 30 against finishing 4th in the tournament.

U12 – 10 goals for and 4 against, finished 1st in pool play 1-0-2, beat the Surge 4-2 for third place.

U14 – 8 goals for and 24 against, 3rd in their bracket in pool play 0-3, 6th in the tournament.

U14 girls – 6 goals for and 9 against, 3rd in pool play 0-1-2, 3rd in tournament.

Open – 19 goals for and 11 against, 3rd in pool play 2-1-1, 3rd place in tournament.

Listed are the current Kick-it World rankings as of June 11, 2011:

Over 30 – tied for 5th with 18,400 points
Open – 7th with 28,080 points

Back to Naples during the weekend of June 25 and 26, 2011, the second to last tournament before Nationals. This tournament saw 6 teams competing for PBFC.

The U11’s and U12’s were in the same bracket, with the U11’s finishing 5th, with 10 goals for and 33 against and the U12’s finishing 2nd, with 28 goals for and 13 against. The U11’s lost in the championship match to Miami Centro to claim 2nd place in their age group, while the U12’s lost to an old nemesis the Surge in the final. Two seconds, not bad for a weekend.

The U13’s finished 3rd in their bracket of pool play with 6 goals for and 25 against, losing in the quarter finals to SC United, but beating Star USA 6 to 0 for 5th place.

U14 girls finished 2nd in pool play with 12 goals for and 8 against, winning the championship defeating NFM SkyBlue 4 to 1.

The U16’s and U18’s were together again, with the U16’s finishing 4th in pool play with 12 goals for and 20 against and the U18’s finishing pool play in 2nd with 20 goals for and 12 against. The championship match saw the two Hammerheads teams against each other. The U18’s dominated the game and won 11 to 1.

North to Jupiter for the first time. The weekend of July 9 and 10, 2011, would have the Hammerheads in a new part of the State for the first time. With four teams traveling, it was great preparation for Nationals.

U12’s combined with the U11’s since many players were away for vacation. They finished 2nd in pool play with 18 goals for and 19 against. In the Championship game they dominated the Cooper City All Stars beating them 6 to 2. The Champions.

U14 boys and girls were also combined, finishing pool play 2nd in their bracket, with 13 goals for and 15 against, finishing 3rd in the tournament.

U16’s finished pool play 1st in their bracket with 25 goals for and 16 against. They would end their tournament with a resounding victory over the best U15 competition team, beating the FC Meow 2 to 1. Another Champion.

Finally, the adult team, all teenagers except Greg Prather, finished pool play in 2nd place, with 33 goals for and 11 against and beating the Jupiter Sting for the Championship.

A new tournament and 3 Champions, quite the feat.
