On January 16, 2009, Pompano Beach Football Club (PBFC) sent four teams to the 2009 Kick-it 3v3 World Championships at the Wide World of Sports complex, in Orlando, Florida. The teams that qualified for this, invitation only tournament, were the two 1993 boys teams, 1991 boys team and the over 30 men’s team.
Pool play began on Saturday, January 17, 2009, with the 1993 “B” (Coach Bentley) F. Bentley, J. Meehan, M. Weingard, J. Forman, J. Silvani, tying the Fire from Georgia. They then lost to the Mooresville Blasters from Indiana and beat the Pumas from Pleasant Hill, Iowa. In the first round of the tournament, they defeated the Titans from Sapula, Oklahoma. They advanced to the semi final round and were defeated by the Blasters again. On Monday, in the match for 3rd place they defeated Celtic from Belle River in Ontario, Canada.
1993 “E” (Coach Elder) team: M. Elder, M. Keleher, J. Martin, T. Bejlovec, K. Rosales and D. Fehl, began their pool play against Celtic from Ontario Canada with a sound victory. They then defeated the Sapulpa Titans from Oklahoma and ended pool play undefeated with a win against the Gladiators from Ohio. In tournament play they were defeated by the Blasters in a very physical game. They then played the Titans who they defeated in order to play for 5th place. After a long tournament, on Monday, they were defeated by the Pumas in the consolation match.
The 1991 boy’s team (Coach Carvajal), A. Green, R. Hightower, G. Trent, K. Waiante, J. Correia and N. Forman, were seeded first in their division, opened their tournament against NW United winning by forfeit. They then lost a hard fought game against the Diablo’s from Florida, who they had lost to in the final at the National tournament. The Dinamo then forfeited there game. They then defeated the Hombres from Colorado, advancing to the semifinal game where they defeated NW United. The final was set with New Skool too from New Jersey. The boys played hard and defeated the New Jersey team 2-0 for the Kick It 3v3 Championship.
This team, 1991 boy’s, is the most decorated team with a National Championship in 2007, 2nd place at the 2008 World Championships, 2nd place at the 2008 National Championships and now the 2009 World Championships.
All teams are commended for their play and sportsmanship. PBFC is proud of all players and appreciates the assistance and support from all the families that support us.
